Perfect Mid-coast Maine Getaway – Day 1 of 3
However long it takes you to reach your destination along the mid-coast of Maine, the promise of a leisurely sail in Penobscot Bay is well worth the drive. Book a two-hour sail aboard the Schooner Olad for an afternoon exploring the bay and all its amazing sights and sounds. Keep your eyes out for seals bobbing in the sea, active lobster boats hauling traps, and gorgeous mansions hiding in plain view along the rocky coastline. Your trip aboard this lovingly restored sailing ship, helmed by Captain Aaron Lincoln, is the ideal way to learn about the history of the area and listen to tales of the high seas. For a more intimate excursion, charter the Sailing Vessel Owl, a six-passenger cutter designed by a famous yacht builder.
After your sailing adventure, check in to your luxurious guest room at the Berry Manor Inn. Take the time to rest and relax before venturing out for a dining adventure at the award-winning Primo Restaurant. Located just 5 minutes from the Inn, Chef Melissa Kelly created the ultimate farm-to-table experience on a 5-acre farm on the outskirts of Rockland, Maine. A James Beard Award winner, Chef Kelly developed what she considers a “full circle kitchen” after 20 seasons serving the finest and freshest food available.
Back at the Inn, treat yourself to heavenly slice of one of our homemade pies before enjoying a good night’s rest in your spacious and elegant guest room.
Perfect Mid-coast Maine Getaway – Day 2 of 3
If you’re an early riser, coffee is ready by 7:00 AM. Take a cup out the porch or garden for a quiet moment of solitude before the day begins. Soon you’ll be tempted by the aroma of sizzling bacon and fresh-baked muffins. Time to stroll into the dining room for a hearty breakfast before embarking on today’s activities.
After you’re fueled for the day, head out to Camden Hills State Park in nearby Camden, Maine. While you can drive to the top of Mt. Battie, opt to take the moderate hike to the summit. When you reach the top you’ll be astounded by the sweeping views of Camden and Penobscot Bay below, the distant islands, and on a clear day, Cadillac Mountain at Arcadia National Park.
When it’s time for lunch, motor over to Archer’s on the Pier for a stunning view and delicious food. Chef Lynn Archer likes to put a “creative spin on Maine classics” and has been doing so since 2011.
It may be hard to tear yourselves away from the incredible view after filling up on fresh seafood at Archer’s. But it’s time to enjoy some “retail therapy” at the many unique shops and specialty stores in downtown Rockland. Imagine finding a hidden treasure among the many antique shops or the perfect gift for that certain someone.
After a full day of hiking and shopping you deserve a long soak in your whirlpool tub back at the Inn. If you’re celebrating something special on this perfect 3-day mid-coast getaway, add something special to make it truly memorable. Perhaps our homemade chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of sparkling wine might do the trick.
In Good Company should be your destination for the evening. This lovely restaurant and wine bar, located in downtown Rockland, serves an ever-changing menu of Mediterranean-inspired tapas in a charming and casual atmosphere. The accompanying drink menu offers an extensive list of creative cocktails and wines from around the world.
Perfect Mid-coast Maine Getaway – Day 3 of 3
Though you’ll be heading home today, linger over coffee and breakfast before packing your bags and saying goodbye. Whatever is waiting for you at home will be there when you get there. So, to complete your Mid-coast getaway, explore the gorgeous coastline on a self-guided lighthouse tour before jumping on the highway. And, if you’ve brought a cooler with you, stop by one of our local fish markets and bring a little Maine home with you.
