Skiing, Snowboarding, Cross-Country Skiing, and Snowshoeing
You have your choice of snow adventures when you visit the Camden Snow Bowl. Located just a short drive from the picturesque village of Camden, the Snow Bowl is the hub of winter activity in mid-coast Maine. Twenty runs traverse the 1300-foot Ragged Mountain slope, offering challenging double black diamond trails, a terrain park, glades, and backcountry skiing. Marked snowshoe trails and a couple of Nordic paths complete the scope of fantastic outdoor adventure awaiting you here.
Hiking and Biking
With its panoramic view of Camden Harbor and Penobscot Bay, Camden Hills State Park is open year-round for hikers and bikers seeking thrills atop Mt. Battie. Difficulties range from easy to moderate, with hikes as short as 0.3 miles to longer jaunts along the ridge top leading to spectacular views east and west above Lake Megunticook.
Ice Skating
Speaking of Lake Megunticook, when the ice forms you couldn’t ask for a more picturesque spot to strap on some skates and glide across its frozen surface. Hosmer Pond, near the Camden Snow Bowl is another great place to practice your camel spins and bunny hop jumps.
Tobogganing
The thrill of dropping out of the toboggan chute at the Camden Snow Bowl never gets old. After trudging uphill dragging a toboggan, catapulting out of the chute down an ice-covered run onto Hosmer Pond is a “scream-like-a-girl” joy ride. Open most Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, it’s the most fun you can have for $5.00 an hour.
Gardens Aglow
Head to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay if you’re in the holiday spirit. From mid-November through December, 650,000 lights twinkle in the central gardens of this magical place in mid-coast Maine. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight to help you locate your car at the end of the evening. Stop by the Garden Shop for some holiday shopping inspiration.
